About Still Bay — Fishing Local Knowledge

Still Bay is a superb angling town with a small harbour, rocky points, surf beaches and the productive Goukou River estuary running through it.

The estuary is renowned for spotted grunter and white steenbras, along with garrick (leervis), kob and Cape stumpnose, while the surf and rocks give up shad (elf), galjoen (protected and seasonal, so check current regulations), blacktail and kob. Prawn, sand prawn and mullet suit the estuary, while sardine, chokka and mussel work the surf and rocks. The Stilbaai Marine Protected Area imposes no-take and restricted zones and the estuary has its own rules, so always check current regulations and permitted zones. The ancient stone-age fish traps are a nearby point of interest.
