About Struisbaai — Fishing Local Knowledge
Struisbaai is a genuine angling mecca, offering harbour-wall, surf and rock fishing plus ready access to the vast Agulhas Bank for boat anglers.
Shore anglers target kob (kabeljou), galjoen (protected and seasonal, so check current regulations), shad (elf), spotted grunter, garrick (leervis), musselcracker and smaller sharks, while the harbour wall is a productive, family-friendly spot fished best at high tide and after dark. Offshore, the Agulhas Bank yields year-round yellowtail plus seasonal geelbek (Cape salmon) and kob. Sardine, chokka, white mussel and prawn are the mainstay baits. This stretch and neighbouring Cape Agulhas and Suiderstrand rank among the finest fishing coasts in the country.
