Kommetjie is a laid-back surfing village on the Atlantic side of the Cape Peninsula, roughly 40 km south of Cape Town, wrapped in kelp forests and framed by the Slangkop lighthouse.
It is one of the Peninsula's best surf zones. Outer Kom is a powerful, hollow left-hand reef break for experienced surfers that only shows on bigger west to south-west groundswells, while Long Beach is a consistent, forgiving beach break ideal for beginners and longboarders, and the Inner Kom is a fun little reef loved by longboarders. It is best on a south-west swell with south-east offshore winds. Hazards include very cold water, thick kelp, rocks, strong currents and a nearby seal colony with the sharks it can draw.
