About Jeffreys Bay — Fishing Local Knowledge
Beyond the surf, J-Bay and its surrounds offer sandy beaches, rocky ledges and the Kabeljous river mouth just to the north, giving anglers a full spread of surf, rock and estuary fishing.
Kabeljous beach is a renowned garrick (leervis) mark, and the wider area produces kob (kabeljou), shad, white steenbras, blacktail and musselcracker, with grunter, mullet and small kob in the Kabeljous estuary. Light-tackle spinning with artificial shads and spoons is deadly for garrick and kob in the surf, while bait anglers use sardine, chokka and prawn on the incoming tide and into the evening. Shad and yellowtail show more in the warmer months; check the current regulations, closed seasons and bag limits before keeping fish.
