About Mossel Bay — Fishing Local Knowledge
Anglers work the harbour wall, the rocky ledges around the Point and the open sandy beaches that stretch north towards Hartenbos and Klein Brak, giving a mix of rock-and-surf and sheltered options in most winds.
This stretch produces kob (kabeljou), shad (elf), garrick (leervis), white steenbras, blacktail, hottentot and the occasional galjoen off the rocks, with grunter and Cape stumpnose in the nearby estuaries. Rock and surf anglers favour sardine, chokka, prawn and live or artificial baits, working the incoming and top of the high tide, often into the evening for kob. Shad and garrick run stronger through the warmer months. Galjoen is protected with a closed season, so check current regulations and bag limits before keeping any fish.
