About Mossel Bay — Surf Local Knowledge

Mossel Bay is a harbour town at the western gateway of the Garden Route, where the coastline turns to face south-east and a rocky headland known as the Point shelters a run of well-known waves. The scene is relaxed and local, with surf shacks and tidal pools clustered along the rocks.

The Point holds two celebrated right-hand point breaks — Inner Pool, a mellow, peeling wave suited to less-confident surfers, and Outer Pool, a longer, punchier wave that throws hollow barrels over its inside section on a solid swell. Ding Dangs adds A-frame peaks with hollow lefts and long right walls. It breaks best on a south to south-west groundswell with light offshore north-westerly winds. Intermediate and up; watch for rocks, shallow inside sections and kelp, and expect crowds when it turns on.
