About Scottburgh — Surf Local Knowledge

Scottburgh is a popular holiday town on the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast, about an hour south of Durban, set on a headland above a sheltered main beach with a tidal pool. It marks the start of the stretch of coast running down towards Port Shepstone and Port Edward, with warm water, a subtropical feel and a lively beachfront.

The main beach is a beach break offering approachable, consistent waves and is well served by surf schools, making it a good spot for beginners and intermediates as well as more experienced surfers on the right day. It works on south to south-east swell with offshore winds from the west. Being a managed KZN bathing beach it has lifeguards and shark nets, though note the nets are lifted during the winter sardine run for the safe passage of the shoals. Watch for rips around the headland and river mouth.
